Google +1

Google +1's allow you to click a small icon on a web page and mark that page as a 'favourite' with other Google users. All you need is a Google Account to do this, like a gmail account, and your up and running. But why bother?

Google has now launched their own Social Network - Google Plus. It works slightly differently to other social networks and i'm not going to go into that now, but you can read more about Google Plus here. the benefit of clicking the little +1 icon is that anyone who knows you via Google can see the sites you have +1'd if they turn up in a search result. If I am looking at a page of results for local training centres and I see a listing that carries a +1 from someone I know, I'm going to look there first. It's a cool way of making recommendations to friends and colleagues. It's early days for +1 at the moment, which is the best time to embrace it.
